Charly Nicolle, Chablis 1er Cru Les Fourneaux 2022 750ML
Winery’s notes: its hue is a lovely straw yellow. Its nose is an intoxicating floral bouquet with notes of almonds and honey and filled with ripe fruit aromas. Tasting is a festival of flavour… tender and abundant. Its character, well-balanced with definite sweetness, was forged respecting the terroir and climate.
The 2022 Chablis Les Fourneaux 1er Cru sees 18% aged in 500-liter barrels for 14 months on the fine lees. It has a slightly “leaden” bouquet that doesn’t quite deliver the delineation of its peers. Maybe pushed a bit too hard in the winery? The palate is balanced with a rounded entry, attractive orange zest and mandarin. It is a crowd-pleaser that might lack some complexity but at least contains freshness and decent length. Tasted blind at the BIVB tasting in Chablis.
